Green Town

Leszno is a well-groomed town. Living here is simply pleasant. It is easy to buy or a rent a flat at very attractive prices. Modern and comfortable housing estates allow people to rest well after a day of hard work. Good public transportation system within the town enable the inhabitants of Leszno to get to work or shopping centers without any problems whatsoever. Our town and ourrounding is full of of parks and green areas, where you can rest and relax. Our purification plants of water, sewage and exhaust fumes ensure clean environment in the town. Our drinking water is among the best in the whole country. We ourselves also care about the environment by participating in the program of waste sorting. The town is involved in a development project, for which we managed to acquire 18 million euros from the EU funds.

Services for the region

Leszno is the service center for the whole region. A well- developed network of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and hotels make Leszno a good place not only for its inhabitants but also for tourists and inhabitants of the whole region. People from neighboring towns and villages come to Leszno to do their shopping and take care of most of their official matters such as taxes, legal documents etc. The province hospital caters for the needs of the inhabitants of the whole region. This modern health- care institution is situated in an attractive part of the town close to a forest. Patients are put in single, double or three- person rooms and they are looked after by highly qualified staff of doctors and nurses having at their disposal high-standard medical equipment. Many towns including those that are bigger than Leszno do not have a health- care institution of similar standard.

High-class schools

Our children can take advantage of a wide range of educational institutions. High level of the Leszno kindergartens is greatly appreciated by parents since 87 % of pre- school children attend kindergartens. The schools in Leszno offer a variety of extra- curricular activities. All students in the fourth grade of primary school attend obligatory swimming lessons. Graduates of junior high schools have wide choice of educational institutions that they can attend. There is a possibly to acquire qualifications in a few dozen jobs. We put a lot of emphasis on learning foreign languages. A few grades in one of Leszno`s high schools are taught some subjects in a foreign language. The Leszno students were the first to take the DSD II (Deutsches Sprachdiplom) exam. Higher education is developing especially fast in the town which is becoming the academic centre of the region. The academic life becoming more and more significant in Leszno.

Something for the body and soul...

There are a lots of attractions for people who like  to relax in an active way. The town has a few kilometers of bicycle paths and nature trails. Horse riders will also discover many attractions here. For health conscious people there are also two swimming pools, tennis courts, fitness gyms, biological regeneration salons. All the facilities are available in numerous clubs or sports centers or in the Akwawit Conference and Recreation Centre. The biggest gliding airfield in Europe is the center of gliding and also bollooning, hang gliding and model making. All the above mentioned clubs and sports centres offer entertainment to sports fans. Leszno organizes national and international competitions in speedway and horse- riding, fencing, bowling and speed cycling. Leszno is surrounded by numerous lakes offering excellent conditions for water sports.

Leszno is a place, where many cultural events take place. Many summer events are held in the market square including the Music and Folklore festival, Brass Band Show and Town Fair. The Leszno Days Festival held in May is the most significant event of the year. It is a time if celebration for the town, when amateurs and professional performers from Poland and abroad entertain the Leszno inhabitants. Various forms of entertainment are also provided by numerous cultural institutions. Art galleries of the Municipal Art Exhibition Centre attract both renowned artists and visitors. The Municipal Public Library organizes many cultural activities. Exhibitions, meetings, family evenings take place in two galleries. Interesting offer is also provided by the music school, clubs and amateur associations, museum and its Art gallery situated in the former synagogue. Both children and adults can find something interesting in the offer the Municipal Culture Center or housing estate clubs.


European traditions

Leszno historically has always been a town of tolerance and openness. We are still open and hospitable. For many years we have cooperated with several European and one African region. Leszno is a member of the CO- operation Network of European medium- sized Towns. Cultural exchanges, joint communities are part of the many years` cooperation. Joint activities produce results beneficial to all the inhabitants. Improvement of the services rendered by the Town Office, sharing of knowledge and experience and establishing economic contacts are all results of partnership cooperation. A highlight of our international contacts was the "Golden Stars" award granted to us by the European Commission. The European Council awarded Leszno with a Diploma and European Flag, which are subsequent stages before winning the "Europa Prize".  

In the town there are 17 banks, 40 insurance companies and other institutions providing services for business like Regional Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Association of Leszno Merchant, Association of Leszno Trades "Starówka" and Gild of Craftsmanship. The town authorities closely cooperate with the business community and they are open to suggestions and information exchange. The President of Leszno founded and has closely collaborated with the Presidential Business Council functioning as a consultancy body.
